Bio

Founded in the doom and gloom of the Pacific Northwest by duo Allison Green and Topher Walberg, The Black Doors hypnotize audiences as a well-oiled machine fueled by unbridled passion. Heart dragging lyrics and siren song melodies pour the foundation for a heavy haunted house built to last. Like a succubus draining the life force from the bodies of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Love and Rockets, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Kills, The Black Doors leave no doubt in their deft resurrection of the dark side of rock ‘n roll.

Well established in the North American music scene for over a decade, Green and Walberg have recorded, performed and toured with members and bands such as The Dandy Warhols, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Mercury Rev, The Warlocks, Ape Machine, Swoon 23 and Sunset Valley. Proficient writers and performers, The Black Doors continue to unlock passages between familiar and innovative sounds.

Spirits (2022)

Channeling dark powers from within, The Black Doors have unleashed their third album Spirits. Gathering inspiration from fear, loss and love found during the pandemic alongside themes from Victorian spiritualism, Spirits evokes strong emotions while balancing the extremes of piercing melodies and raucous cacophony.

Persevering through strange times, the band (Allison Green, Topher Walberg, Brian Gardiner) ambitiously recorded Spirits at their respective home studios, with the exception of the supernatural vocals tracked at Singing Sands Studios in Portland, OR.

Allison Green’s haunting voice wails and wanes against cutting drums and swirling guitars, leading the listener to question at times if the record itself is possessed. Joining forces with Portland based Little Cloud Records, The Black Doors continue to deliver devilish good fun.

Anatomy / Deviants (2019)

If the heavy layers of distortion form the grim cadavers of The Black Doors’ debut records Anatomy and Deviants then Allison Green’s haunting voice is the scalpel that dissects them. Raw and emotional lyrics embody the band’s honest approach to dark concepts like death, isolation and kink touched on within the records.

Backed in the studio by psych-rock heavyweights Paul Dillon (Mercury Rev), Brian Gardiner (Federale), Collin Hegna (Federale, Brian Jonestown Massacre) and Peter Holmström (The Dandy Warhols), Anatomy and Deviants exude a delicious doom. Both records stand on their own with unique approaches to arrangements, Anatomy more sparse and cold while Deviants more lush and passionate.

The Black Doors’ sound has been compared to classic bands such as Siouxsie and the Banshees and Love and Rockets and modern ones like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Kills. The Black Doors deliver a promising debut into Portland’s goth-rock scene.
